Knitted on a 7-gauge machine, which makes them thick enough to replace slippers on a tiled floor. Mostly wool for warmth, nylon in the heel and toe for the places that wear, a little elastane in the leg so they stay up without a tight band. Sized by shoe size, not S/M/L.
Wool socks felt in a 40 °C wash: they come out smaller, denser and permanently so. Wash at 30 on a wool cycle and they last for years.
